When the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a bear market for stocks around much of the world, people naturally looked to Buffett for his opinion. At Berkshire’s 2020 annual shareholder meeting he said, “Fear is the most contagious disease you can imagine. It makes the virus look like a piker.” In essence, Buffett is saying that COVID-19 will eventually pass, like all other crises in U.S. history. However, having an investment approach being overrun by fear is a serious impediment to long-term financial success.
